A group of start-ups seeking to grow meat from cells without killing animals has agreed to form an industry trade association and adopt the term ‘cell-based meat’ to describe their products.  Memphis Meats and NAMI wrote in an Aug 23 letter to President Trump: “Moving forward we will use the term “cell-based meat and poultry” to describe the products that are the result of animal cell culture…”

Lightbulb Moment: Although it is fabulous that they are forming a trade association and have moved away from the “clean meat” label, the new term “cell-based meat” is neither accurate nor approachable.  All meat is cell based.  For that matter…all plant food is cell-based too.  Fear mapping might be useful to solve both issues.  Hopefully, this is a work in progress.
