According to a Plant Based Foods Association-commissioned analysis of FDA-collected comments, a majority of the more than 7,000 respondents advocated for the continued use of descriptive dairy terms for plant-based milks and other dairy alternatives. Just 13.5% called for restricting the use of the dairy terms, with 51% of those comments coming from dairy farmers. Seventy-six percent of 7,061 of the public comment writers said they want plant-based milk companies to continue using “milk” and other traditional dairy terms to describe plant-based versions of those items. That’s according to an analysis of the responses by Linkage Research and Consulting, commissioned by the Plant Based Foods Association.
